03. "Of Meetings and Goodbyes" (RP)

DM:

The old man shrugs, not deigning to answer the question directly.

He takes the cage of canaries and places it back in his pack, which still looks to be empty, even after taking in the cage.

"I cannot tarry here, I'm afraid. But listen well, all of you: Do not stray from the path set before you, and do not stray from each other. You are all unique, and you've been brought together for a reason. Our paths may cross yet again, before your adventure is through, though then again, they may not."

He stands to his feet, walks across the cavern, and climbs out.

If any follow to see where he is going, he is nowhere to be seen after leaving the cavern.

"Umm... goodbye? What about ye, lass? Will ye be leavin' as well?"

The glowing elf woman smiles and waves farewell as the old man leaves, and she continues to inhale the trail rations given to her by Sigil.

Dahkore, knowing only that the man had the "scent" of Bahamut on him, if one could phrase it that way, took the man's words to heart. He felt that something was happening that was larger than him, and this potpourri group was somehow integral to it.

He looked at Sigil, preparing what seemed to be a ritual.

He didn't always understand the motives of gods, and wondered if the entire group was necessary.

"Well, he certainly was an odd fellow."

"I'm guessin' yer stayin' then." He touches his shoulder and Rune once again appears. "As long as we're somewhere reasonably safe 'n' warm I suggest we stay. At least until the storm passes. Get some rest, perhaps." The familiar chitters in agreement. "And as long as we're here I might as well get this done." He gesture to the bolts.

The minotaur gets up, and approaches the group, and speaks " Morning is still some time away, I'm sleeping, wake me if anything goes bump." then he goes and finds a corner to curl up in with his sleeping sack.

Liar dips his finger into the small sack and it glitters as he removes it. He starts to trace runes on the quiver of bolts, muttering beneath his breath. Slowly and carefully he writes each symbol. As soon as one is complete it flares with light and glows. Occasionally the mechanical familiar will dart in to smooth out a symbol here, or to finish another there. Once the last sigil is in place the whole quiver glows and the bolts inside spit and spark as if struck by electricity. Satisfied he places the quiver at his hip and returns the now empty pouch to his pack. "There, now I have me own lightning bolts. Heh."

Rubicon had already entered with the rest of the group, observing everyone while the conversation took place before him."Hmmm... interesting... it seems that man is connected to the deity known as Bahamut. And all of us sound as if we're supposed to meet... this intrigues me greatly. Yes." Rubicon shrugs, moving to sit with the rest of the group. "So who will take first watch, in the event something happens?"

"I can take first watch, friend. I may have seemingly abandoned my post, but I cannot shirk all duties that should be mine."

The mysterious elven woman watches with keen interest as Sigil prepares for the ritual, only to become bored by it when it actually begins. Making an irritated sound, she moves off to the entrance of the cavern, staring up into the stormy grey sky, a sad expression on her face.

The nimbus of sun-like light around her changes once again to a silvery glow, though this time there are several dancing, flickering points of light hovering around the woman as well.

Quietly, almost to herself, she whispers something in elven, a tear rolling down her white cheek.

Rubicon glanced around, as if he had heard someone's voice. "... we should rest now. The sooner we rest, the sooner we can continue venturing up the mountain." He glanced back towards the elf, wandering towards her slowly. "You're leaking... are you broken?"

Dahkore responds to the elf's whispers. "Who are your friends? The stars? If so, once the rain has passed, you will see them again."

She gestures up toward the obscured sky, speaking rapidly in elvish, wiping the tear away and sniffling a little.

The gryphon comes to stand next to the maiden. "I suppose we don't know if the clouds will ever part. But we believe and hope that they will, and then they do. Do not cry. If you hope that your friends will come back, they surely will."

Dahkore was no stranger to holding onto a small piece of hope. Sometimes, it was all you had that got you through.

Rubicon tilted his head as Dahkore spoke to her. "Hmmmm... oh, I wish I knew that language... oh the things I could be learning right now! Oh well... let's be off to bed, Cubert."

The woman nods, hugging Dahkore and burying her face in his chest feathers, sighing loudly.

Eventually, she leaves the grypon and finds a spot on the ground to lay down, staring up at the ceiling, her eyes hooded and her breathing relaxed.

the minotaur is tossing and turning in his sleep.

Before he can move a muscle, the woman is gone through the fissure in the wall. Grumbling, Dahkore goes back into the rain after her.

He raises a wing and uses it to umbrella Kai before he speaks. His tone is light.

"Are you sure that you wish to stand first watch. You know that I'll never hear the end of it if my comrades were to find I let a woman take my place in that role." He smiles and looks down at her. "I do not mean that offensively. I really do not mind standing first watch, but I can also see you are a capable person."

DM:

Okay, Dahkore and Kai have requested to have a private conversation outside the cavern. Anyone who is awake and would like to try and listen in, go ahead and roll a Perception check.
