03. "Of Meetings and Goodbyes" (RP)

OOC: I want to roll to see what these private checks are. Just tell me the skill and I'll roll it.

Sigil, if you want to find out what these private checks are, you're going to have to roll me a super private check, lol (seriously).

Roll me a d20, and I will privately add the requisite skill. That way, if you fail, you won't know at all.

"Interestin'..." The artificer mutters under his breath as he looks over at Kai.

DM:

The forest ahead remains silent and dark, though most of you have detected the subtle hints of an ambush lying somewhere beneath the pine boughs...

Yeah, Ithilwen is still asleep...

Liar whispers so that only his companions can hear him. "Right. I think that what's about to happen is obvious enough. Somethin's waitin' for us. Tarbh, ye should lead the way. Yer big 'n' intimidatin' enough to give 'em second thoughts. Dahkore, same to ye. Ye might even scare 'em a bit more then our horned friend. Although the elf should probably get off afore that. Kai, Ruby, and I should cover the rear. Don't know what weapon ye prefer, lass," He said to Kai. "But I've seen ye do that nifty trick with the light earlier and yer not wearin' much in the way o' protection." He turns to Ithilwen. "Lass, I don't know if ye can understand me, but I have no idea what ye can do. Ye've got a staff and some magical ability but, well... yer buck nekkid and stark ravin' mad." He glances at Dahkore. "Don't translate that last bit." He then looks closer at Ithilwen. "She's still asleep, ain't she? Well wake her up and translate that. 'Cept that last bit, o' course."

The artificer looks around at his companion. "Anyone have any suggestions afore we head into the jaws o' death and doom?" He looks specifically at Dahkore. "Ye've got experience so I'd appreciate any advise ye have."

Dahkore looks slightly surprised that after taking lead of the situation, the artificer took a moment to ask him his opinion. There was honor to be had within the weird man. "I cannot disagree with the logic of your plan. Though I'm not sure if Ithilwen will be safe no matter what her position is. We don't know what she is capable of, and of course we have nothing to clothe her in." He turns to the sleeping maiden.

"Ithilwen?" knowing that anyone could be near, listening, he tries to keep his voice low, but still loud enough to perchance awaken her. He shakes his back a little, hoping that the unexpected movement will entice her to open her eyes. "Ithilwen. Can you hear me?"

Ithilwen yawns and rubs her eyes, on arm wrapped around her staff, holding it close to her. She sits up, yawns again, and takes a look around. The sun-aura around her seems to glow brighter in the shadow of the trees.

(I'm going to assume that Dahkore will translate what Sigil said)

She slowly gets down from Dahkore's back, nearly losing her balance as she drops to the ground, and clutching at the gryphon for support. She stretches, yawns again, and nods at the words translated to her. She squints her eyes as the gazes into the darkness of the forest ahead, as if searching for something. After a moment she shrugs, looking at Dahkore and speaking to him in elven.

"Yes, there may be things in the forest that will harm us, with no good reason. We haven't done anything wrong, but they will still come for us," he responds to her in elven.

He looks back into the forest, and throws his mind into it, trying to find the thoughts of those who he knew had to be just outside of their range.

Dahkore couldn't pick out anything in particular, but knew that there weren't just animals to come. He spoke to Sigil in common. "I can't tell what is before us, and that worries me. Whatever it is, you can be assured that there are quite a few."

"Well I'm ready." He raises his crossbow. "Let's show 'em we're not mewlin' babes, easy to be picked off."

Rubicon tilts his head. "Yes, and considering I am a summoner, I could conjure up one more potential ally to aid us, regardless of the situation. But Kai is right, fighting back to back here and now may prove beneficial in the long run. Nothing like nipping a problem in the bud before it gets worse..." He readies his staff in one hand, his tome in the other as he watches around him, not actively searching at the moment. Cubert keeps his gurgling to a minimum, sitting on Rubicon's shoulder and sticking strong to it.

"Yer assumin' they're willin' to come to us. Might be they'll just wait 'til we leave and set up another ambush further down our path."

"Aye! True! Now yer thinkin'! Who wants to lob a fireball in there?"

"I could smoke them out if you would like..." Rubicon said. "Just pick a spot."

"Well let's see if I can find 'em." He concentrates on any feelings emanating from the forest.
